We absolutely love creating these beautiful lace jeans, and the story of how they came to be is just as special as the final product. It all started during a casual afternoon browsing a local op shop, hunting for unique materials to create with. When we stumbled upon a collection of vintage lace curtains and table runners that someone had donated, inspiration struck. We instantly knew they would be the perfect textiles to upcycle, giving forgotten fabrics a brand-new life.
The Creative Process: Crafting Unique Reworked Jeans
Every pair of SKUNT jeans tells a story, and the process is entirely hands-on. We begin by carefully cutting out structural panels from quality denim. Next comes the artistic part: cutting and placing the lace in whatever way feels right in the moment. Because we don’t follow a rigid template, every single pair we make evolves into a truly unique reworked jeans masterpiece.
Sometimes we bunch and layer the lace to add rich, tactile texture. Other times, we lay it completely flat to showcase the intricate, delicate patterns of the vintage lace. Once the vision is set, the lace is pinned to the denim insert and secured via sewing machine to create the custom panel pieces. To elevate the design, we often hand-sew delicate bows directly onto the panels.
From there, the new lace panels are pinned and sewn into the unpicked seams of a carefully selected “base” pair of jeans. After the panels are settled into their new home, we overlap the bows over the fresh seams and hand-sew them in place. This creates that striking, signature overlapping bow look that defines our brand.
Conscious Fashion That Tells a Story
The result? Romantic, feminine, and ethereal statement pieces that bridge the gap between edgy streetwear and soft aesthetic. They are incredibly versatile, too—you can easily dress them up for a night out or throw them together with a simple singlet for an effortless, everyday look.
Choosing this path isn’t just about style; it’s about making a sustainable choice. Beyond op-shop curtains, we have also repurposed sustainably sourced lace dresses and other pre-loved garments to create custom, one-of-a-kind pairs sought out by our happy customers. By reimagining existing denim and lace, we are keeping beautiful textiles out of landfills and turning them into wearable art.
